Finding a swimsuit has never been easy but finding one that works since becoming a mama has been a journey. If you follow me on Instgram then you may have seen my stories over the weekend about the swimsuits I brought on our beach trip last week. If you haven’t seen the stories you can catch them here. A lot of you had questions and I wanted to put all of the info in one place and link the suits so that those of you who are interested would be able to easily try them out!
FIRST THINGS FIRST
The search for suits that made me feel confident and comfortable wasn’t fun or easy. I’m hoping to help you out with my picks but with that being said… every BODY is different. What works for me might not work for you. But I am confident that even if the exact suits I have don’t work for you, that you will find something that works within the brands I’ve curated.
I thought that swimsuit shopping was hard before having Max. HA! Cute. I’ve always had these curves and flaws to dress but now everything is a bit more squishy and there’s more to… hold up?
THE TRY ON
You have two options here:
- Go to the store. But not just any store. Make sure to visit a specialty store, not a big box store. It’s one thing to carry swim and it’s another to KNOW swim. Go to the ladies who know the brands and the fits, the ins and outs. Let them pick out options for you.
- Order them all and try them at home sans bad lighting and sales pressure. Keep what works and send back what doesn’t. This is my preferred method. Order an array of styles and sizes so that you don’t have the frustration of “nothing works”.
Keep in mind that swim suits are like denim. They stretch. Sometimes an entire size. Err on the side of caution and buy on the snug side vs loose.
Look for suits with real sizes. If they are two piece suits the top should be sized by cup and the bottoms by number. No s,m,l sizing for us anymore.
GIVE YOURSELF GRACE. Do you see squish? Cellulite? Stretch marks? Cool! Your body has done a lot for you. Be nice to it and love it, dress it well, and rock that suit with confidence. Ok? Ok.
There are SO MANY options. How do you know what to get? Color or neutral? One piece or bikini? High rise or low cut? That’s a loaded question, but here are some tips on how to know what to get:
What do you need? Are you chasing a toddler or lounging? Is your chest large or can you get away with less support? Is your tummy flat or do you need compression and a high rise?
Do you feel comfortable? Sure, it might look cute when you’re standing still, but are you comfortable moving around in it?
My advice is to invest in neutrals that are classic and will last years. If you want a fun and trendy option, let that be your suit that is less of an investment since the chances are that you won’t be wearing it next summer.
I grabbed the 3 styles above for the summer and you can shop those HERE. But I’m also including some other client favorites and fun accessories. Each item has a little pro tip or style note under it but if you have any questions please feel free to reach out via email: email@example.com I would love to chat!
CREATING YOUR “OUTFITS”
Just like your everyday wardrobe, your summer beach/pool outfits should be made of mostly basics with pops of personality. It’s better too grab a few quality pieces than own every “cute” suit from a bargain store. Find a few pieces that work well for you and then have fun swapping out the accessories.
A neutral tote is also a good idea. You don’t need a lot of beach bags. I like a cute straw one or a fun clear one. A pair of black and a pair of brown and then maybe a metal pair of sunnies will do. No need to splurge here, find ones that you won’t be mad about when you lose, scratch, or break them!
Grab easy cover ups, kimonos, and cute linen pants. I like slides from Target in pops of color or a chic gold. A baseball cap for more casual days spent in the water and something more sophisticated for adult, lounge, or even lunch time.
If you want to accessorize there are great waterproof options as well. But my favorite way to incorporate color is with something fun on my nails and toes!
Have fun this summer, soak up every moment with those little ones, and remember… every BODY is a beach body!
